The Universal Peace Federation is guided by a vision of humanity as one global family of God, living in accordance with universal principles. It comprises of a global network of individuals, leaders and organizations who are committed to the creation of lasting peace through personal development, dialogue, education and service. This network represents a wide range of fields including politics, civil society, NGO’s, all faiths, academia, the media, the arts, sports and the private sector.
UPF advocates renewal of the United Nations, including a proposal that the UN create an interreligious council within its structures. UPF implements its programs through a global network of Ambassadors for Peace. UPF offers relief and humanitarian programs; service-learning projects; character education and sports programs with a special focus on personal leadership and peacemaking skills. The Universal Peace Federation’s vision is a world of peace based on human rights, justice, mutual respect and co-prosperity. UPF sees that world peace is sustained by ethical and altruistic individuals and families who, in turn, create safe, caring and just communities and nations. UPF also understands that peace can only be created and sustained through interreligious dialogue and co-operation, through consistent international cultural exchange, and through organizations and societies purposefully dialoguing and working together in order to remove the barriers that divide the world today. UPF also believes that the UN millennium development goals (MDGs) and the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights should be supported for the key roles they play in creating lasting peace.
Programs and Initiatives
The Middle East Peace Initiative brings the Ambassadors for Peace to Israel, Palestine and Jordan to promote understanding and reconciliation among people of the Abrahamic faiths. They visit homes and places of work, worship and government, and participate in dialogues, interfaith gatherings and service projects.
North East Asia Peace Initiative promotes reconciliation in the Korean Peninsula through humanitarian relief, personal encounters, joint business ventures and cultural exchanges.
Inter-Religious Federation for World Peace (IRFWP homepage) builds networks and bonds between religions. They publish a quarterly journal called 'Dialogue and Alliance'.
Religious Youth Service (RYS homepage) - connects youth of all faiths from different nations for the sake of service and understanding.
Interreligious Peace Sports Festival is an annual international interfaith and intercultural athletic event.
The World Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (WANGO homepage) seeks to strengthen and encourage cooperation between NGO’s.
Character Education Program is an educational program for ages 6 to 18 based on the text book "Discovering the Real Me: A Student Textbook for Personal Development".
